DESCHUTES RIVER TROUT
Fly Fish Oregon's Deschutes River for Wild Trout
The famous Deschutes River offers year-round wild trout and steelhead angling. We fish the lower 100 miles from Pelton Dam to the mouth, where it flows into the Columbia River. To uphold the Blue Ribbon fishing, this section of the river is managed for CATCH & RELEASE angling, with only barbless hooks allowed. We provide transportation on the river in our 17' Willie drift boat. Regulations on the river prohibit fishing from any floating devise, all angling is done by wading.
The Deschutes River is home to the native Redside Trout. This particular Rainbow Trout is only found on the Deschutes River and can be identified by the distinct red stripe down its side. The Redside's native status allows them to adapt to the strength, diversity and structure of the Deschutes River, providing a unique angling opportunity. Redside Trout average from 14 - 18 inches, with the occasional fish over 20 inches.
The nature of the wild "Redside" Trout, blended with the river's diversity produces a memorable and worthwhile angling opportunity.
